FreeSEOReport Review
Here is my review of Free SEO Report
I always have my doubts on anything automated that I don’t know exactly what it is doing, but here goes….
First off the site design is good and very inviting. The way the site gets your email address and for you to register is very nicely done too. I’m sure this will lead to more and more emails until you end up buying the monthly service.
The site I used is a very good site and ranks well in Google for tons of terms. But the keyword I picked is for the homepage to where I don’t rank yet. I was unsure what to put in for these options because either I didn’t read it or it wasn’t there. So I decided to pick a keyword that I WANT to rank for.
The report took 9 minutes to process. First thing that struck me is it showed a time where it started which was an hour off of mine. Which I don’t really get why to use that then since it could be 23 hours off. Probably be best to change to a Date/Time it took to process (or just date).
Here is my report.
Report Overview
The report starts off by giving you the following data for the top 10 sites ranking for this keyword along with your site.
First off I had a little error next to mine that says
(error while getting this url) – No idea what that means.
Url PR Yahoo Linkdomain Yahoo Links Alexa Domain Age
So right away I see the PR column which is pointless and can go away.
Next I notice Alexa jumping out at me. Nothing to do with SEO, please trash it.
Now I see Yahoo Linkdomain and Yahoo Links. This confused me so I went to Yahoo and ran the search “site:www.sitename.com”
I see that I have 183 inlinks on Yahoo. But the report has 414 for Linkdomain and 41 for Links. So no clue where they get this data and therefor useless to me.
Domain age. It was right and I believe does play a VERY SMALL role in SEO. What people usually confuse this with is Link Age and that is what matters. How long has your incoming links been pointing at your site.
So for overview. I gained nothing…..
Competition Summary
Average PageRank: 5
Total number of Google search results: 4 540 000
Pagerank hasn’t been updated since April so this info doesn’t matter at all.
Total number of Google search results also is a number that doesn’t matter at all.
This competition summary is really bad. You need to use some allintitle’s, allinanchor’s and really get some good info here. What’s there just isn’t good and can mislead people.
Your Website vs The Competition
Shows a chart of everything above comparing that info to the competition. Since all that data is useless or I can’t find out where it comes from, this is also useless.
The next part shows me some General Suggestions. I can’t tell if these are generated based on the results or what but it has some good info.
- Make websites for people, not search engines.
- Make websites that convert to your end goal… not just rank for keywords.
- Build a brand around a community. One that loves you and will fight for you because they love your services. Don’t shut them off.
- Make your brand so big that search engines need you.
- Don’t focus on just one keyword. Do a proper keyword research to find out what people seeking your products and services are actually using.
- Read Google’s SEO Starter Guide: http://www.google.com/webmasters/docs/search-engine-optimization-starter-guide.pdf.
Again. Nice solid info that you can find all over the web, but nothing to do with an SEO Report.
Title Tag
Now the report looks at if the keywords are within our tags. My results says (error while getting this url) so I guess that means it isn’t?
This part is still hurting my head. Now it looks even deeper into tag for some reason. For each of the 10 sites it looks at
KW Quantity:
KW Position:
Words in title:
Title length:
Never seen or even imagined that matters for SEO so I will completely disregard all of that. Nice pretty chart though.
Once again here is some suggestions it gives you which is same old blah blah. Not saying it isn’t good info, but you can find this info everywhere for free.
- Make sure that your title tag includes your keyword (a greater weighting is given to key phrases at the left of the title tag)
- A compelling call-to-action might help you get a better click-through rate in Google search engine results pages.
- Make title tag unique on each page (Google Webmaster Tools can help you detect problems with the title tags).
- Avoid keyword stuffing in your page title.
- Using the table above to compare your site to your competition.
Heading Tags
Getting bored.
Looks at header tags and once again it gives an error for my site. The error is because I dont have the keyword in my H1 tag. Change error to not found or something.
Now more numbers that really don’t mean jack that show the other top 10 sites along with yours.
H1s with the keyword:
H1 avg word count:
Avg H1 length:
H2s with the keyword:
H3s with the keyword:
H2 avg word count:
H3 avg word count:
Avg H2 length:
Avg H3 length:
Seriously? Are we just making stuff up to make more numbers to make it look more pretty? But…. drumroll please……
The suggestions pop up and are spot on great general info again.
- Avoid keyword stuffing in any of heading tags because it will do more harm than good
- Using your keyword in H1 or H2 can give some minor positive effects on SEO
- h1 is the most important heading – use it only once or twice per document and include your keyword there if it fits naturally
- Use the tables above to compare your site to your competition h1
Going to speed this along…
Body text
Calculates keyword density and word count. Useful but it couldn’t read my site again and I get (error while getting this url).
URL
Looks to see if you keyword is in your URL. Gives more useless stats and numbers like URL length and word count (sorry, doesn’t play into SEO).
More suggestions
Sitemap and robots.txt
Couldn’t find mine because it doesn’t exist.
Meta description
Tries to tell you that it plays a role in SEO. Numerous of tests has shown that this isn’t true. DELETE
Links
No idea what this does because I got (There was an error while getting your URL)
Then it goes on for a few more tests that I would rather not review because my pizza is getting cold. Overall it seems like they picked up a book from 2000 and made reports based on that. SEO has changed and so must the reports.
It is full of numbers that don’t mean anything at all and need to be removed.
It gave me no idea where my site was besides (not found).
It made my head hurt doing this post. This is probably why I don’t ever do these things.
I really don’t know what value it adds besides the little tid bits of suggestions that are on there which is common SEO knowledge.
Great for free/entertainment purposes. But it’s only free 1 time.
I understand that this is for someone that knows nothing about SEO but this is misleading information that is given and doesn’t help at all. It needs to be upgraded and some actual value added so your not just taking their money.
Overall good on them for creating a product that offers no value but still sells. If I could do that, I wouldn’t bother sitting here for 30 minutes trying to win an iPad.
Read MoreWhy I Should Go To Affiliate Summit West
Normally I would never enter a contest. Actually this is the first contest I have entered via the internet.
I started working on the internet in 2002-2003. The first few years I was very successful in getting a huge return for the very few hours I was putting in. Then I transferred to a ship in the US Navy and all my sites went down the drain. I was forced to put my job before my hobby which I happily did so. After that long 5 years it put me at 14 years in the Navy and now I have the opportunity to be on shore duty for the next 3 years. During that time I have been constantly away from home missing birthdays, holidays, and even Affiliate Summits!
I can now go, so lets do this!
Read MoreEzineArticles Getting Strict On Submissions
Well I was submitting some of my articles to EA after I read their blog post after they said they were going to start rejecting a bunch.
I submitted 4 articles and they all went to the end of the submission process and finally I got a…
“Problem: Your article body does not fulfill the promise made in the article title.”
So I went through the articles and I really have no idea what they are talking about. Each one of my articles were like “21 ways to”, “5 ways to”. My title matched exactly what the body did. So I sent them an email asking WTF about this and we will see on the results.
If they are rejecting my articles then I guarantee that the other 100′s a day that are just for affiliate promotion are getting rejected too. Affiliate marketers are what helped make EA to what it is today. Now it seems they are going to shut the door on us.
Anyone else get rejected yet?
Read MoreSetting Up The Autoresponder
Well I was searching for what autoresponder to use for this project and I really didn’t want to go the expensive route such as Aweber so I think I will just use the GWA Autoresponder Plugin for WordPress since I already bought it awhile back for something else. Only reason I am using it is because, its free since I already paid for it, you can use SMTP, and it has throttle control so I send out email safely and get a real low bounce rate.
After I set it up (took 5) minutes I built an autoresponder real quick. For the autoresponder all I really did was search for some good tips and rewrote them and I am sending one out each day. I haven’t added any affiliate links yet in the emails, still trying to figure out the best way to do this.
While all this is going on I wrote 1 article and submitted to ezinearticles. I will post a link to it so you can see how I am preselling when it goes live. In addition to that I just gave a job to some of my writers at Hire Writers to make me 6 more articles. Again, Ill post a link to all those when they are live.
Now I am just waiting for them to be approved and I will go on with the next step and that is attempting to get the articles in the top 30 for their category so it will get duplicated on the max amount of websites.
Read MoreLong Tail Keyword Research For Clickbank Products
Continuing on my bum marketing tutorial it is time to find some keywords. This I normally do all manually by using the Google Keyword tool and by doing Google searches.
Here is what we have done so far and what is left to do.
1. Find a Clickbank niche
2. Find great long tail keywords
3. Write a fairly decent article
4. Post on Ezinearticles
5. Pay Microworkers to Stumble my article on Ezinearticles
6. Rinse and repeat
I used to do this a different way but I am going to attempt a new approach. The first keyword that struck me was “how to write songs” which has 60,000 searches a month. So then I will do a search on the tool for that one to narrow it down some. Once I did a search for that I noticed the keyword “how to write your own songs” which doesn’t have too many searches but this is the type of keyword we are looking to target using bum marketing. Not to mention it would make an easy title to write an article about.
Now lets test the results in google. It returns 50 Million results which would normally turn a bunch of people off but you should never go by that number because it doesn’t help one bit. The reason the number is so high because of words within the keyword like “how”, “your”, and “own” which are used all the time.
Instead start out with a search with the term in quotes for an exact match. So 1.7 million pages on the internet use this exact term. That seems a little high for this but lets keep going. Next I will check how many pages have those words in the title. Only 74 which means to me that it wouldn’t be hard to rank for this keyword at all. Lets just take it back one step to the keyword that has 60,000 searches a month and do a search for that. Still not bad at all for that one which means we could possible get traffic from the better keyword.
Finally this is where I am going to try something new that I have noticed for awhile and that is just to judge the results of the first page by memory. So I did a search for the keyword and I see that there are 2 sites in the top 10 that I recognize which is wikihow and ehow. Sites that I am looking for are these types of sites including squidoo, blogger, wordpress, article sites, ect. If those sites are ranking well then I should be able to. That is ALL the research that I will do to make it very quick and should be effective.
Now that we have the keyword it is time to create the first article which I will cover in the next post.
